My boys LOVE everything to do with weapons and fighting. It is a boy thing right?! So today, Sunday no less, I ask Daniel to read a book before bed. He comes into the living room with the Power Rangers book he has been reading everyday since his purchase at the book fair almost 4 weeks ago. I stop him before he can sit, and ask him to pick a different book, it is Sunday of course. He gives me this look...of really, but mom, I LOVE this book, please.... so I change tactics on him. I ask him to go get his scriptures. Puzzled of course, he runs to get them. As he returns I change the whole tone of my conversation. It went something like this..."Cool, hurry give them to me, okay lets see....oh yeah, turning in 1 Nephi of the Book of Mormon, here it is...go read Chapter 3. So he sits on the couch and starts reading and reading and reading. I can hear him and interrupt his reading...is this not the coolest part? Did he get his sword yet? Does he kill Laban yet? Let him read some more than came back on the couch...and you thought Power Rangers were cool, this is real and look how many stories there are about Heros fighting with swords to perserve the teachings of Jesus. At the end of the read, he put his scriptures away, came to hug me goodnight and asked me what cool story he can read tomorrow night. "Mom, Nephi is cooler than the Power Rangers!" I love it!
Is that why there are so many war stories in the Scriptures?? So our little boys will truely learn to love the Heros in scripture stories, and learn from their faith and testimonies. It definatley helped tonight! Love it!!
